It’s My Body by Lory Freeman – Illustrated by Carol Deach

A 5 star rated book that empowers children to say no to unwanted touch!
Educational – Relevant – Important

The one fear most parents experience is the fear of their child being placed in the care of the wrong people or beingĀ molested by a predator. As a single parent, that fear increases. Neither parent can thoroughly monitor who their child is coming into contact with when they are with the other parent and often, separated parents are not open to co-parenting.

For me as a single parent, the best gift I can give my child is a book just like this one that will teach her that her body is special, it belongs to her and no one is entitled to touch her without her consent.

A short and simply worded book suitable for children as young asĀ 3 years old that explains what a healthy touch is all about. I found this book as a recommendation on a parenting website along with a few other books relating to empowering children and developing healthy boundaries. So if you are a parent like me and wishes to be free from worrying then this is a positive step forward to one of many proactive means of protecting your child.

I highly recommend this to all parents of young children.

Your Body Belongs to You by Cornelia Spelman – Illustrated by Teri Weidner

5 stars and highly recommended for children aged 2 years and up

A gentle and empowering read about touch.

I found this book on a parenting website recommending this to children from ages 2 years and up. I really enjoyed how this book illustrated lots of love and affection while slightly making it clear that it’s always OK to say “NO” when you do not feel comfortable with being touch – even if it’s just saying no to an unwanted hug.

Written positively and structured in a simple yet reassuring way with wonderful illustrations, I found it caught the eye of my toddler and I highly recommend this to all parents to read to their children.
